One of a pair

Today my son and daughter-in-law came to visit for three days. I took them to Llangollen to see the very full River Dee and we ended up going for a walk along the canal.

This was one of a pair of herons, it had been displaced by the other one but stayed close.

I wondered if they were pairing up as herons are very early breeders.
