NEW YEAR'S DAY

To beat the heat and all the visitors we were at the beach before seven this morning. As you can see we were not the first and there were several family groups with tents and chairs for grandma and a trailer with all the picnic goodies up in the car park.
Today and tomorrow are special picnic days for our local community. A tradition that goes back to the times when there were slaves in the Cape.
The New Years Minstrel Carnival, held every year at this time, also goes back to those times.
