The waiting game

Padiham, East Lancashire,

An old Victorian mill town, set in a swallowing dip by the River Calder. The mills are long gone. Unlike it's neighbour, Burnley, Padiham has no royal champion (Prince Charles) yet in its places, it's ancient Anglo-Saxon roots still show in its meandering roads and back-street byways just as they do in Burnley ("Brunlea" - field by the River Brun).

To my eye, Padiham is a shadow-filled photographic dream. Don't be frightened of the black, for it brings out the textures of the light.
