The End of the Ivy ?

The end wall of our house is covered in ivy - "Nairn Ivy" as we call it as we were given the original plant by our former neighbours, the Lochheads, and it was a cutting from a house Dougie's family had in Nairn.

It grows wonderfully well , in fact too well for every couple of years we have to cut it back as it tries to grow through the slates and flashing on the roof to either side.   Thus it is that we always have amongst the green leaves some signs of earlier plants.

However when the path around the house was being lowered and relaid in November the contractors cut all the main shoots at ground level.  So although it shows now immediate signs of dying back  I suspect before long we will see it wither and if we want to grow it again once the house is painted in the spring, we will have take and root a few cuttings.
