30 May 1998 Maria & Rosie

Posted on 3 January 2016

Both Bavarian Girls with good Bavarian Forenames - Maria with two feet, Rosie with four. Maria is a born and bred Grosskitzighofen'er, the village we lived in then. Her parents, Hannah and Alois are also both Bavarian, although Hannah may wish that to read "Franconian" (northern Bavaria)

Rosies proper full registered name hints at something not being quite "pure" in her Bavarian heritage - Rosalie McKee- No not of Scottish parenthood but rather from Sanbars Luke (Bavaria) and Donna McKee (Cutknife, Saskatchewan). She's a so called American Quarter Horse. Rosalie can claim her great great grandfather on the maternal side was the, still, leading all time sire of the breed with the name of Two Eyed Jack.

Rosie was born in spring 1995 and we got another foal of the same age for her to have as a kindergarten pal - Silvan, a born and bred Grosskitzighofener and as one might expect, with time Silvan and Maria grew closer. When we moved home to near Memmingen in 2002, Maria was no longer able to ride him so often but then once she had completed her studies, we gave him to Maria and he is now back in Grosskitzighofen with her and doing well.

By the way the photo was taken with one of the early digital cameras.
