Port Mulgrave

The best of the day was due to be this morning. With this in mind we decided on a trip to Staithes. As we crossed the moors in thick mist I did wonder if a trip to the coast was wise. However the coast was clear and the sun was attempting to break through.

After a walk through the village and watching the waves crashing onto th breakwater we headed on to the Cleveland Way. Not so much a footpath as a mud slide. We made our way to Port Mulgrave. The only access to the sea is via a precipitous path.

It is a unique place. Over the years shelters have been built using an assortment of materials largely thrown up by the sea. This building summing up the type of building to be found. Fishermen and fossil hunters kept up company as the waves battered the coast.

We both really enjoyed the experience if not the muddy boots and dog!
