We will remember them

The weather outside is frightful, but the fire was so delightful, or so the song goes.

Well the weather is just awful, but the first Sunday of each year the village of Oakworth marks the anniversary of the death of the Canadian airmen killed when their plane crashed in bad weather in 1944, with a short service. I played the last Post etc and abide with me. It was heartening to see people still making the effort to attend, as it isn't easily accessible!
A representative from the Canadian Embassy in London attended with his wife, and it was a pleasure to spend some time chatting with them.
Mr and Miss H and G then joined me in The Grouse for a lovely meal to celebrate my birthday (tomorrow). We had a lovely time, and a lovely meal. The roads were awful coming back with the heavy rain taking its toll. They have now headed back to Manchester, hope the rain isn't as bad for their journey.

53 years ago snow was a major problem in the country. I think at the moment it would be preferable to this rain
