Twelfth Night and wassailing at Bankside

Despite the dreadful weather in London today I went to Bankside with a friend to watch the annual Twelfth Night celebrations performed by a contemporary troupe of entertainers called the Lions part.
It was an interesting mix of festive songs and pagan traditions including the Holly Man of the Thames - the 'Green Man' of pagan folklore who brings in the new year, Wassailers who toast the Thames and pray for good weather for ships. There was also a group called the Bankside Mummers who performed some very old street plays but with some amusing modern day references thrown in!
It was my first wassailing and I suspect a bit different to those performed elsewhere.
