Suburbia

I borrowed a car
and loaded it in pouring rain.
For nearly two hours I drove
in sunshine, two of us
in a low, warm, washed light.
No chance of stopping.

As the sun was going down
we reached Suburbia.
Three of us unloaded.
There was no milk for tea.

In the almost-dark I left.
For nearly two hours I drove
in darkness and rain, just me.
