lighting a sky lantern

The traditional fourth of July fireworks were postponed until the fifth (due to a thunderstorm warning) so at dusk we all headed over to the beach.

Although I snapped many pics of the fireworks show, these mini hot air balloons -- fired by ordinary candles -- completely captured my attention.

I've never seen one of them before and can't get over their simple beauty! Extraordinary!
