'Corinna - New Years Eve'

Backblip.

Got up, picked up a few supplies from the supermarket for our next few days of camping at Corinna and headed further north towards the 'Tarkine'.

The road turns from bitumen into gravel along the way and narrows down to about a car and a half width so you have to be on the ball while driving, especially as the road is quite winding and visibility isn't great with thick growth surrounding the road. Although a gravel road, it's well maintained and in really good condition.

To get to Corinna you need to cross the Pieman River on the 'Fatman Barge'. It can carry two cars across at the same time or one car with a caravan. It's quite a slow trip across on the old barge that is pulled by a cable and probably takes the best part of 5 minutes to do the 150m approximate crossing.

As you cross the river you are in Corinna, a very small little settlement with the pub being the only public building in town. We checked in at reception and drove down to our little camping spot alongside the river.

There are about 15 campsites each with it's own raised timber platform for camping on as the area receives approximately 2m rainfall annually, and set in amongst the tree ferns and rainforest.

Unloaded the car and bikes and Bella had her first stack, getting the speed wobbles on the gravel road came off and grazed her arm, chin and leg. After carrying her back to camp for a patch up she was back on the bike in no time.

We all headed up to the pub and sat around a fire for New Years Eve, met another photographer and his partner and we chatted until midnight. Bella asked to be taken to bed at around 10pm and I layed with her in the tent until she nodded off. Dylan found some new friends and played spotlight most of the night.

It was a nice low key New Years Eve and shortly after midnight everyone headed off to bed.
