Driftwood

Late start on a dreich morning. Sorted out a few household chores and some paperwork, while MrM walked the dogs, packed some sandwiches and a flask of coffee and, of course, played guitar for a while.

Determined to make the most of the day we set off down to Alnmouth for a walk on the beach - the drizzle had stopped by the time we got there. The tide was in, and the beach strewn with all manner of things washed down the river in the recent storms - mostly wood (twigs, branches and huge tree trunks) and, sadly, human debris (mostly plastic). Lots of seaweed and a few lobster pots on the beach too. Great flocks of sea birds (thousands of birds) flying over the sea, almost certainly following shoals of fish coming in with the tide. Gulls coming down to specific points on the shore too - MrM thinks they were feeding on sand eels.

Back to the car for lunch with a sea view, then in to Alnwick for some essential shopping. We also chose a cabinet and some tiles for the splash back in the bathroom - still a work in progress! And back home through the mist and rain...
