Planet Earth is Blue

Like so many others around the world today, I woke up to the shocking and deeply sad news that David Bowie has died.

Purely by coincidence, I had planned to meet with a friend in Beckenham today and our plans quickly changed to a memorial tour of the town, visiting sites where a young David Jones grew up and where David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust played their first gigs.

Very moving experience seeing other locals come and place their floral tributes, talking, remembering and reminiscing over the days Bowie had resided in the area.
Even the local Mayor stopped by and talked of plans to erect a monument or some kind of tribute, possibly renaming the Croydon Road Recreation ground Bandstand, the Bowie Bandstand.

I heard fans were Dancing in the Streets of Brixton this evening, was tempted to join them on my way home, but as it was almost 10pm,  I thought it was a bit late and ought to get home. Kind of sorry I didn't now, would have been a lovely way to celebrate the life of a true icon.

"If you're ever sad, just remember the world is 4.543 billion years old and you somehow managed to exist at the same time as David Bowie."
