'Tiney'

I was thinking about someone I was talking to today who was in her 80's and her home was completely devastated by the flooding Eamont in December and then I was reading about the latest plans for the A591 (the main road connecting the north and south Lakes along Thirlmere reservoir) and for the bridges at Pooley and Eamont and it made me think of this 'li'le slipper' (also extra) that belonged to'Tiny' or 'Tiney', who lost it when he was 8 months old. It was subsequently treasured by his son, and now by me.

It reads as follows ....

'Tiney Kirkby lost his li'le slipper on a drive round Thirlmere when about 8 months old 1899'.
