With a few zeroes and some minuses in the overnight forecast and most of the puddles on the way home from school (and some in Rankeillor Street) being frozen, I put some spikes on. There looks to be at least 4mm all around them which mean that the 38mm spikes I found in a box in the wardrobe last week should fit, but some mudguard-wrangling would have been required and I really couldn't face that after half an hour forcing two Schwalben onto their rims. I'll fiddle with the mudguards one lunchtime and then perhaps even fit the 38 spikes to different wheels to test their fit.
