Ice

The dry weather encouraged us to visit RSPB Baron's Haugh, near Motherwell today and we were rewarded with a lovely walk in the winter sunshine.
This ice formation caught my eye - it looks like the water froze, but the water level then fell as some of the recent flood water drained away leaving the ice unsupported and breaking under its own weight. Some of the ice even had witness marks in them showing the interaction between the falling water level and freezing conditions - an example is in the extras.
The birds didn't disappoint either with 35 species including the fabulous grey heron in extras.
