Slabs

Tectonic forces press slabs of the world upward into the heavens.  A pile of rusted scrap bits from the CNC plasma cutter look to me like striated slabs of rock pushed up and over other layers as the continental plates float and collide.  Edge-on, the pieces of steel were originally about 1/16th of an inch (~1.5 mm).  Now, the layers of expanding rust have doubled or tripled that.
