Napoleon Bonaparte

Atop the column Vendome is this bronze statue of Napoleon Bonaparte.  This statue and column was first erected in 1806, the statue taken down in 1814 when he abdicated the first time.  A different statue in the mode traditional pose of Napoleon as a corporal was mounted in 1833 then taken down by the revolution (the Commune) in 1871.  The existing statue of Napoleon as a Roman emperor was mounted by Napoleon III in 1875, and has survived!
