Was It Really So Long Ago

Ups and Downs

Genoa is a city constrained by the sea and mountains behind, forcing its growth along a narrow strip of coastline between the two. Modern roads, snake into and out of the mountains, down tunnels which twist and turn underground. The old roads and streets, weave through the narrow gaps between the high old buildings up and down the hillsides.

The old part of the city, spreads up the hill from the old port (Porto Antico), to where our hotel is. We ventured out again this evening, in search of a good walk before resting for drinks. Yesterday, we found a café bar open, but only serving drinks with a large plate of aperitivi. Drink, without eating it seems is seldom done...

... Unless you happen to find the Britannia Pub that is. An English / Irish pub with just the essence of Italian.

They serve drinks without food... we stopped for a quick one ...

... and left after a meal, later in the evening!
