The traditional English Pub...

... has been in decline for some years, with many still closing at a very rapid rate. 'The Henry Peacock' in Starbeck has suffered this fate.

About 2 miles from the centre of Harrogate the pub was originally called 'The Harrogate Hotel' and became very popular, sited next door to Starbeck Railway station. Besides providing hotel accommodation for visitors to the spa town, it became a very successful pub.

The pub was renamed to commemorate the master of the local workhouse, a short distance up the road.

The pub has been closed for some time and appears still to be waiting for a buyer and a new use.
