Sally Mair - Loving life

Travelling on!

All good things must come to an end it's time for a change now, so today I travelled through to Tirunelvelli in the next state of Tamil Nadu. I hired a car to come to Kovalam to pick me up. The same driver who has come every year turned up, right on time to take me through.
The road goes south from Kovalam and from experience, we have learned to avoid the busiest main road as far as Marthandum. We then head for Nagercoil before heading north on the newly dualled National Highway 7 to Tirunelvelli. Just before Nagercoil, we pass through the rocky tail of the Southern Ghats. Outcrops like this one are common, many have temples on their tops and although the road doesn't climb at all, the mountains are spectacular. It's a distance of about 150km and during the day takes 3 - 3.5 hours.
