Fractals

There's a wonderful exhibition of science-related photos outside buildings in York at the minute. I've been enjoying looking at the different ones I've seen. This is my favourite. The plaque underneath says this:

Fractals, like this Mandelbrot plot, are self-repeating patterns found throughout nature, in plants, lightning and even coastlines. Early work on fractals was pioneered by Lewis Fry Richardson who went to Bootham School*, 1894-1898.

*Bootham is a small independent school just up the road from where this picture is situated.
