The seagulls were standing on the ice on Walton Pond this morning. In nearby gardens there were the remains of snowmen, so they obviously had more snow than we did. Although only six miles away, they are very much higher, so always seem to have more snow.
Sister J and I went up there this morning because this is where we lived in our younger days, J in particular. We visited a pub where she used to help behind the bar. We worked out that this was more than fifty years ago, and I was amused to see that one of the historic photos on the wall of the bar was taken at about that time! It made us feel so old! She amused the current young barmaid with tales of that time and told her she met her husband there, and had their wedding meal there too.
Next we visited another pub that she used to frequent. She had a very pubby social life in those days! I must add that today this was not a typical pub crawl, we had a hot drink in the first pub and nothing at all in the second!
We drove around the village in the sunshine, marvelling at how some places are just the same and others have changed beyond recognition.
