Unfurling

Oxalis versicolor, a South African bulbous plant, it's common name Candy Cane Sorrel is very apt.  The flowers are white but have a red stripe around the edge of the petal reverse.  When the flowers are closed the buds resemble a miniature candy cane.  After a cold morning they had only just begun to unfurl when I left for work.

This plant can be obtained from specialist bulb sellers, it is not difficult to grow but is not very hardy.  In the UK it needs cold glass cover to protect it from severe frost.
