Challenges along the way

I traveled to parents' place for the weekend. The train from south arrived in Joensuu half an hour behind (and half an hour after it was supposed to head back south). After its arrival the train departed 1,5 hours late from schedule. Cold winters (and hot summer, falling leaves in the autumn and whatever else in the spring) seem to be challenging for Finnish railroad system - just ask Hevosmies. So that's nothin new.

However, that wasn't the only obstacle on the way. When Dad and I were driving home from the train station, we just barely managed to dodge a car battery placed on the middle of the road. As we stopped to remove the battery from the road, another car stopped by and told us that another car battery was in the middle of the road about 15 km further down the road, so it was clearly an act by an unknown sadist and not accidental. Authorities were informed. There have been other similar incidents around the area during at least the last couple of years, but obviously the perpetrator has not been caught. Fortunately no one has been hurt yet to my knowledge, but if these acts continue I'm afraid it's just a matter of time.
