The fool on the hill

Hola!

My sis and I hitching around Spain.

Took train from Barcelona to Manresa. Windy - good lentics in sky. Had some food by the river. Started to hitch towards Igualada. Very slow going. We walked about a mile and then got a lift with a young bloke to Igualada. He took us to the centre but that was a mistake and we ended up walking all the way out again, heading for Lleida. Another slow one with many lorries. Got a lift about 6 o'clock after Kate had drawn a sign saying Hola! in bold green letters. Driver spoke no English and seemed to lack a sense of humour. He found our 'Spanish' difficult to understand. We eventually determined that he was a traveling salesman in women's clothing and had driven from Italy. He took us all the way to Zaragoza (where we got lost) and then on to Ailgon. We thought he was going to drive off with our bags when we stopped of for a beer but he didn't and turned out to be a nice, if slightly dour, chap. He dropped us of on the N11 near Ailgon. It was dark as we walked into the village and we couldn't find a hostel. Eventually found an open-sided cattle shelter near the N11 and slept there for the night.
