Buried Treasure (?)

The first pull-tab was invented in Ontario, Canada in 1956. It was used on bottles. In 1962 a can version was invented in Ohio, US. Known as the 'ring pull' in British English, these tabs/rings were designed to come completely off the can and then were discarded. There were documented cases of children ingesting the pull-tabs that had broken off and dropped into the can. The aluminum tabs also became a problem in the environment. The 'Sta-Tab' was launched in 1975. It remained on the container and was therefore less of a hazard. In the same year the 'Easy-open ecology end' was invented. It's design kept the tab on the can and bent safely inside the can and out of the way. Gone were those 'pull-off' tabs! 'Gone' at least on products produced and sold in the U.S. Sadly never truly 'gone' in the rest of the world or the environment. Sorry, much more than you care to know about pull-tabs...most likely.

This 'Pull-tab' was unearthed while I was doing a bit of winter gardening/ cleaning-up.
