Butovo

The Russian Orthodox temple at Butovo Poligon stands as a reminder of a grim history lying in the field behind it.  Between August 1937 and October 1938 some 21,761 people were executed on this site.  Today, the site is maintained as a memorial to the repressions of that period.  More about those events here and here.  This article presents a comprehensive history of the property.

Second blip today is of the new Church of Russia's New Martyrs and Confessors built adjacent to the poligon and dedicated to the memory of those executed.
