Antigua

We arrived in Guatemala City at 3.00 am (we spent 9 hours in Atlanta on the way - we were luckier than most people travelling in eastern USA on Friday) and spent the day wandering around the old city of Antigua.
It's a lovely old place, the former capital of the Spanish colony, abandoned in 1773 after a series of earthquakes and volcano eruptions. Recently, the old buildings have been conserved or restored and it has become a major tourist attraction with Mayan locals selling their hand-made products and plenty of colonial architecture to feast the eyes on.
