'All built by hand'

These are long abandoned lock gates of a temporary canal that was built in the early 19th century whilst an aqueduct was built to take the Grand Union canal over the Great Ouse near Wolverton, Bucks.
These lock gates are all that remain above ground of the temporary canal, but several additional lock gates are buried further downstream. The aqueduct was opened in 1811 and continues in daily use.
