Sperm Whale waves goodbye

Well what a day.
One heck of a road to Kaikoura, but even more of a rocky ride to see this big chap. A Sperm whale dives up to 1,000m to feed. This needs to be off the continental shelf as this is only a few miles off the coast at Kaikoura, it makes it an excellent whale watching place. They dashed us out to catch this guy as he surfaced for a few minutes. 60 minutes later he resurfaced.
We had to dash back to shore after he dived again, but not until we had had a great experience. At least 2 types of Albatross, Petrols and small Blue sharks, plus many more birds.
Poor Margie and Ally were very pleased to hit hard ground. The last surprise we had was another Sperm whale who surfaced just by the boat when we were dashing back. Unfortunately we had no more time to stop and enjoy.

We stopped on the way to catch a bite to eat, but it wasn't the best as everywhere was closing and the choice was a chip shop. Eventually our tails made it to Christchurch.

We checked into the  Amros Court Motel and a very warm welcome to a huge 2 bed apartment .

A short walk down towards the centre of Christchurch and we happened across the best named restaurant of the trip.
"Tequila Mockingbird".
The taster menu was worth the dosh and the company wasn't at all bad.

A fun night, but unfortunately the open window allowed the Mossies also to have a fun night. I hate being tasty.

As aye
