Black-winged Stilt

A very pretty Black-winged Stilt juvenile on the Wadi river. These birds usually turn up in family groups, but this one was on its own. As you can see it has not got the bright pink legs, all white body plumage (black wings)and fiery red eyes of the adult yet. I love their beaks which look so sharp almost like a needle as they 'pierce' the water searching for food. Another very common bird in Oman, sadly they seen to be easy targets for the Marsh Harriers that crouch unseen in the Palm trees ready to swoop down and grab their prey.
