Lake Atitlan

Around the beautiful Lake Atitlan, surrounded by volcanoes, are a number of small towns inhabited solely by Mayans. The small town of San Antonio Palopo functions much as it would have down a few hundred years ago, and all the women and some of the men still wear traditional dress. They welcome tourists and are pretty good at selling their hand-made textiles and fabrics.
These two women, and the baby in the papoose, are dressed entirely in their own-made clothes. The one on the left is from this village, where they all wear blue, but the other is from a neighbouring village.
