Today's Memories

"Mer mache dicht!" is this year's sujet or motto for Basel Fasnacht which translates to "We are shutting down".
Everyone traditionally wears such a badge called Blaggedde which directly helps to cover the considerable costs of the groups that participate in the two main processions.

The Blaggedde comes in copper, silver, gold and "bijou" and are sold for 8, 16, 45 and 100 Swiss Francs accordingly.

The Blaggedde tells the story of the extinction of the local stores in Basel.  A rolling shutter closes down more and more from the copper to the gold Blaggedde as you can see in today's blip.

You may also interpret the subject into closing down the stores for the next 3 days of Fasnacht.

Or better yet, perhaps Europe is slowly closing down due to what's happening in the world today.
