Sweet Box

Deep in the shade of the shrub border in my garden is a lovely evergreen shrub that bursts into life at this time of year. Sarcococca confusa, or Sweet Box, erupts into clusters of tiny fragrant flowers followed by small shiny berries that stay for some time. The RHS web site says it will thrive in almost any soil type and any aspect as long as it's not in full sun and will tolerate atmospheric pollution, dry shade and neglect - ideal!!
