The word became stitch

I had a long day in the office so today I am sharing a piece of work that has been waiting to be hung for a while.

A small hanging pieced from various African fabrics. The embroidered panels are South African and based on the folk tales of the Venda people. These tales are shared around the cooking fire by the brave illiterate mothers and grandmothers whose lives are a constant struggle for survival.

Located near the border with Zimbabwe, the Timbani project works with the women to preserve their oral tradition and empower them by enabling them to earn some income.

"The word became stitch and is now alive under the baobab trees and in smokey huts. There's a new interest and a little more money."
