The visitors

Today is the Big Garden Birdwatch, organised by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. We've all been asked to count the number and types of birds seen within one hour. I think the birds in our garden must have got wind of it, because it was an exceptional day for sightings. Along with the usual Robins, Bluetits, Sparrows, Pigeons et al, we had a Great Spotted Woodpecker, a Jay, a cock Pheasant who flew up onto the summerhouse roof (but flew off again while I scooted to grab a camera) and these four colourful visitors.

We often see Ring-necked Parakeets in the garden, but they usually land in the trees and seldom come to the feeding station. Maybe they saw me topping up all the feeders this morning, and reckoned that a good meal was in the offing!
