Cairo Restoration

Much of Downtown Cairo styled along grand Parisian boulevard lines and, to some extent, those of London is falling down. The government own many blocks and at best do a paint job to make them look better while ignoring the need for deep structural reforms to the buildings' fabric. There are some private initiatives to buy up and fundamentally make good these wonderful blocks which often feature an Art Deco style, as here. The trick is to get into the innards of the buildings without delay, otherwise the only option will be demolition. This one in Downtown looks like the real McCoy in terms of renovations. It will certainly grace the street when the scaffolding comes down. Maybe better to turn a blind eye to the health and safety aspects of the workers' gangways though!
