Sleep

This is Khalid. He's an Omani. He's a student. He's in class.

And he's sleeping.

If it's one thing Omanis love to do, it's sleep.

What did you do at the weekend?

What are your plans for the holiday this week?

What do you like to do in your free time?

Ironically, none of my students seem to go to bed until 2 o'clock in the morning, giving them around 4 hours sleep a day. For the two classes in the morning though, they're bright and alert enough (mostly).

After lunch however, it's a different story.

Fed on a lunch-time diet of rice and 'meat' each day, they soon become groggy and tired. It starts in the one o'clock session but the real killer is the 3pm lesson.

The students are so tired by this time that they can barely focus and become extremely restless. Well some of them anyway. A select few, like Khalid here, just rest their heads on their folders and nod off.

You should have seen this guy when he heard my camera phone taking the picture. He, for want of a better phrase, shat himself!
