Theban Sunset

Imagine sitting in the cool evening breeze, which is coming from the Theban Hills on the West Bank.

The sound of birds calling as they are making their way back home, their black shadows dotting the orange sky.

Farmers pack up their spades, don their gallabeyahs and take the Water Buffalo in from the field.

Children playing in the street, it is cool enough to go outside now.

Dogs awake and start to bark, signalling they are hungry.

The haunting, emotional, but yet calming sound of a Qoran recitation, marks the passing of an extremely well regarded and respected man from the village. For 3 days and 3 nights, men have come to pay their respects, at his home, while the women have gone to the family home.

Another day closes.
