After the Fire

Just over 2 years ago I recall my journey home being disrupted as roads along the MOD military ranges near to Deepcut were closed due to heath fires. In fact the fires, which engulfed a large area of MOD land, came right up to the perimeter fence and if the wind had been stronger could have crossed the road to endanger the nearby housing estates (including my own).

Today the heathland shows just how resilient nature is, and is once again full of life. The ranges were looking particularly lush with the recent wet weather, and there is remarkedly little evidence remaining of the fire.

This tree trunk is the exception, with its base little more than a lump of charred wood while its albeit defoliaged top looks untouched.
