Storage wars

This is our Brownbuilt steel storage compactus unit we use for storage of some of our old tape archives. It occupies a medium space in the garage and provides a massive amount of storage in a reasonable floor space.

The unit used to belong to Channel 7 in Adelaide and it was specially designed with shallow shelves for holding video tapes, both camera tapes and master tapes. We grabbed it when it became redundant to their needs some years ago.

This is just a small fraction of the tape and DVD storage space we need, with much more in other parts of the house in the office areas. Being a compactus unit, it was much more visually interesting for blipping than shelves packed with tapes and DVDs. It provides 8 bays of storage.

We are gradually converting many of these old tapes shown to DVD discs for storage, and some historic master tapes will remain on tape and be passed on to a fitness archive in USA called the Stark Center.
