A Collector of Oddities

Quarry

Thanls to everyone who liked Rupert the Vulture. I am really chuffed that other people can appreciate his beauty! :-)

This is a granite quarry not too far from Keswick. It is filled with old mining and quarrying equipment and very excited gentlemen of a certain age. We couldn't go on a mine tour as they were understaffed but it was quite interesting looking round all the equipment.

Earlier on we had visited the Pencil Museum in Keswick. The company has been building pencils since 1832, initially from graphite mined locally. Much more interesting than it sounds! I liked this quote:-

I wasn't one of the purple lads, you could follow them up town on a wet night

Things are a bit different now!
