Open Wide and Shtum

Today is Setsubun. On this day in Japan it is traditional to eat roll sushi facing a certain direction (different each year) without speaking. My daughter and I managed not to talk, my son failed.  Another Setsubun tradition is for children to throw beans at someone dressed as a demon or wearing a demon mask in order to drive away evil spirits and welcome good fortune. We did that too. Guess who had beans thrown at him.
