What's that funny smell.

Our old vacuum cleaner started making more noise than usual and emitting a nasty smell; these are the culprits. A bearing housing failed, allowing the brush to move over and try to weld itself to the housing.
It doesn't owe us much, it used to get jammed with dog hair and we haven't had a dog for several years, but it's useful, it saves the trouble of carrying the heavier, newer machine upstairs. So in spite of it's age a replacement brush has been ordered.
