Cherry Blossoms

For those of you who haven't been following CNY (Chinese New Year) traditions over the years with me through my journal, this is a cherry blossom tree. Usually these trees are covered with lai see packets.

Lai see (red packet - usually red but also gold) is traditionally given to single people, children and those less fortunate, at CNY. You're passing on wealth and wishing good fortune in the coming year. And you should usually give two packets (double fortune) with two hands.

Some westerners have 'had' to adopt this practice, as we are seen as more fortune-ate and therefore it's expected of us!

These blossoms will be blooming by CNY next week. I'm always amazed at how they time the planting of these trees, which I love very much.
