Any ideas ....................... ?

Shopping in a different neighbourhood today, we found an Asian greengrocers and butcher.
From a distance I thought this was a box of prawns amongst the fruit, then I thought it was ginger root, but there was a box of ginger just below it, so it's not that.
Of course I should have told Mr. Beewatcher to ask what it was when he went in to pay for his apples and pomelo, but I didn't.
So .... any ideas ?
