Friends of the Belair Park AGM

Today we had the AGM of the Friends of Belair National Park.  I’ve been coerced onto the Committee by the new Secretary, Paladian.  It’s hard to resist Paladian when she gets the bit between her teeth! I will be the newsletter editor and she feels she may be doing more on this project than me, so we will see.

The birthday of the Friends is December 19th each year, but this year the party had to be cancelled because there was a total fire ban on the actual day. Accordingly today we had a mini birthday party as this was the first meeting of the New Year.  Part of the Celebrations was the presentation of the 20 year and thirty year service awards to several of our members. The Park is 125 years old this year and is the second oldest National Park in Australia and 6th oldest National Park in the world, which in my opinion is quite a special thing.

Brian DuBois, Gill and Anne Ross – all 20 years of service,  Dene Cordes with 30 years of service, and John Schutz, who is the Director directly in charge of Friends of National Parks in our state of South Australia. He made the special presentations and spoke superbly to the meeting.
