Oviedo Sunday Market

A day of rest….and how welcome it was!  It really wasn’t a day of rest, however, because I got out early to explore this charming little town in the early morning sun.  Several hours and 5+ miles later, we boarded a tour bus with other members of the orchestra for a guided trip to the coast and the town of Gijon.  We toured the principality’s University, had a photo op stop (yay!) on a cape overlooking the town, and strolled along the downtown shoreline with its huge breaking waves.  We had dinner with two orchestra members and their wives high on the side of a mountain that overlooked the lights of Oviedo at night.

The highlight of the morning was the Sunday market, which was crowded by 11 a. m. with vendors selling goods and many shoppers.  It was quite a large market and had everything one could possibly need.

Oviedo was where part of the movie Vicki Christina Barcelona was filmed which was explained to us when we came across this statue of Woody Allen(see extra) and scratched our heads.  Apparently he quite likes this town and vacations here.  He was one of the recipients of the Princess of Asturia awards in 2002.

I am having a hard time keeping up with blip and am barely getting through my images each day to get one posted. Monday is another travel day with an evening concert so I may start running behind.
