Early Bird

Tugging and then pulling hard with it's long beak this oystercatcher had no problem. The worm came out of it's hole with ease from the soft muddy banks of the lake.

Conspicuous with the black and white markings and orange bill along with their 'Kleep' call which is unmistakable. The call is especially noticeable at breeding time in April/May when they form groups, building scrapes out of shells, pebbles and sometimes vegetation. Personally though I really like their eyes which are an amazing red
